The driver of British heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been discharged from the hospital and may face prosecution following a fatal road crash on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, authorities have confirmed.

The accident occurred late Monday night when a sports utility vehicle carrying Joshua and members of his entourage collided with a stationary truck along the busy highway. The impact resulted in the death of two passengers travelling with the boxer.

The deceased have been identified in multiple reports as Kevin “Latif” Ayodele and Sina Ghami, both described as close associates of Anthony Joshua. They were pronounced dead at the scene and later at nearby medical facilities.

Following the crash, Anthony Joshua was rushed to Duchess International Hospital in Lagos, where he received treatment for injuries sustained in the accident. Medical sources confirmed that the boxer is in stable condition, with no life-threatening injuries reported.

The driver of the vehicle also sustained injuries and was admitted for treatment. Police confirmed on Tuesday that the driver has since been discharged from the hospital.

Possible Prosecution Looms

Law enforcement officials say the driver may face possible prosecution as investigations into the crash continue. Preliminary findings by traffic investigators indicate that excessive speed and dangerous overtaking may have contributed to the collision.

A senior police source said the decision to file charges would depend on the outcome of forensic analysis, eyewitness testimony, and vehicle inspection reports.

“We are examining all available evidence. If negligence is established, appropriate charges will be filed in accordance with the law,” the official said.

Truck Driver Flees Scene

Authorities are also searching for the driver of the truck involved in the crash, who reportedly fled the scene immediately after the collision. Police say efforts are ongoing to locate and question the individual as part of the investigation.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has expressed concern over the incident, noting that the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway remains one of Nigeria’s most accident-prone highways, particularly during periods of high traffic and festive travel.

Public Reaction and Safety Concerns

The crash has sparked renewed public debate about road safety, speeding, and enforcement of traffic regulations in Nigeria. While many fans expressed relief over Joshua’s survival, others have called for stricter accountability following the loss of lives.

Anthony Joshua has not issued an official statement as of the time of filing this report. Messages of condolence continue to pour in for the families of the deceased.

Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
